Nokia and F-Secure join forces to fight mobile malware

Security firm F-Secure has announced a new partnership with Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN), in a bid to help secure internet service providers and mobile users from the growing sea of mobile malware targeting them.
F-Secure senior manager of Business Development Mira Sivonen told V3 the partnership will see the company offer NSN customers a number of anti-malware and privacy security services.
"The amount of mobile malware is increasing. The partnership is going to let them [NSN] push a number of our solutions. These will include our mobile security products for mobile and client solutions," she said.
F-Secure director of Product Management Antero Norkio added that the solutions will help protect customers from a variety of threats. "We have tools to protect people from a number of threats, things like in-browser threats, phishing, spying or even the loss or theft of the device," he said.
Vice president of Portfolio Management at NSN Thorsten Robrecht said the partnership is an essential step in the company's move to secure its customers against mobile attacks.
"NSN strongly believes that best-in-class security can be achieved only by combining the forces of market-leading experts. NSN and F-Secure are establishing a partnership to protect mobile users from continuously increasing security threats," he said.
F-Secure and NSN are two of many companies to report an increase in mobile malware. The attacks are generally believed to focus on Google's Android platform: telecoms giant Cisco reported that a massive 99 percent of mobile malware is designed to target Android in its latest threat report earlier in January.
The attacks were originally believed to have stemmed from cyber criminals, though recent PRISM revelations have proven that the UK GCHQ and US NSA have also been targeting mobile devices as a part of their ongoing intelligence-gathering operations.
